Description
Water lettuce is another gorgeous pond cover plant. It has velvety, bright green leaves that add an attractive new dimension to any body of water, perfect to accent almost any other water plant you can add. With long roots, water lettuce will also suck up any excess nutrients in your pond, which is important to maintain the ecological balance of the water.
Care, as with other pond cover plants, is easy. It requires full sun to part shade, and it enjoys warmer temperatures, making it ideal for sunny ponds. You should remove portions every few weeks, to ensure it doesn’t overtake other plants or deprive the pond of oxygen. In the winter, you may take the plant inside and overwinter in a mixture of moist loam and sand, with water temperatures between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, you may have to buy new portions every year.
