Description
Vallisneria (often simply called val) is one of the most popular aquarium plants around. It is exceptionally hardy, easy to grow, and will populate any tank abundantly. It’s the most classic aquarium plant there is, with its long blades of green, grass-like leaves. Fishy inhabitants will particularly enjoy it, as it provides a fun hiding place and takes care of excess nutrients- helping to maintain the ecological balance of the tank.
It is very easy to care for. It will thrive in anything from low to high light, but high light will make it grow particularly quickly. Fertilizer should be applied to the water column every now and then, roughly every month or two, to ensure that it has a steady supply of nutrients. For best results, plant it in a nutrient rich substrate. It will spread quickly through “runners”- and it can quickly overtake a tank if left unchecked, so they should be thinned out every now and then.
