Figs are a delicious fruit native to the Mediterranean, where it is used extensively in a variety of Mediterranean cuisines. These trees bear large, juicy, and succulent fruits that vary in colour from white to deep, royal purple. Whether you’re eating them as a snack, or a scrumptious healthy dessert, growing your own figs will be rewarding for your tastebuds!
Care for fig trees is rather easy. Plant in full sun. They prefer a loamy, fertile and well-draining soil- adding organic compost or manure will help create the best soil conditions for the tree. They enjoy their space, so ensure they aren’t cramped in by other plants. Water regularly, and keep roots moist. Protect from cold winter weather and winds by planting it in a sheltered location, wrapping in burlap, or moving it into a pot indoors.
