The best of both worlds when it comes to a perennial plant, Polygonum has long, twining woody stems and glorious blooms of fragrant and clustered white flowers. The dense and evergreen foliage will start out with an almost reddish colour when leaves are young, but they quickly turn a bright green as they mature. The flowers are fragrant, and will add a classy touch to your garden.
Like other vines, the Polygonum requires a trellis, wall, fence or other structure to support its vines as it grows. It is fairly easy to grow, being able to tolerate anywhere from full sun to partial shade. It can tolerate most types of soils, and is rather drought-resistant, though it appreciates moist soil so do try to water it! It is very fast-growing, so pruning will be key to keep it under control.
