Perennial grasses are a common fixture in gardens and containers everywhere, adding a classy but non-intrusive touch to any variety of plants. Japanese blood grass tends to have a vibrant red colour, perfect for adding a bit of a dramatic pop to your garden, or as an accent to a flower bed. It is an excellent border grass. The foliage begins green with red tips and turns into a bright red as it matures.
This perennial grass is rather low maintenance. It grows best in cool, moist locations, preferably in well-drained soil with part to full sun. In shady areas, the red won’t be as bright, though it will still live. Ensure the plant isn’t in a soggy location, as too much water will cause rot.
