African violets are some of the most popular flowering houseplants around, along with orchids! They have gorgeous round leaves with thick veins along the bottom, which are accented with striking, brightly coloured flowers. When the plant is happy and healthy, it can bloom nearly year round!
Care for African violets can be specific, but it is well worth it for the blooms. Plant in a special African violet soil mix, or a soil that includes peat moss, vermiculite and perlite in equal parts. They are picky about water. Water with lukewarm water, at the base of the plant- never allow water to touch the foliage or flowers, as even a drop can damage the plant. Water when the soil feels less moist to touch- do not allow the plant to dry out completely or stand in water. They require bright to medium indirect light.
